ISPG & ASHG Joint Symposium

The Mind Matters: Psychiatry Meets Human Genetics
A symposium organized jointly by the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) and the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics (ISPG)

Ticketed Event
Tuesday, October 17: 1:00 pm-4:00 pm
Orange County Convention Center, South Building, Orlando, Florida

Moderators: Michael O’Donovan, ISPG

Although psychiatric disease constitutes a major healthcare burden worldwide and has received significant attention from biomedical scientists for many decades, insights into the biological basis and natural history of these maladies have been slow to develop.  Rapid advances in the genetics of complex disorders, however, have led to improved understanding of psychiatric disease and its clinical management. This joint symposium will highlight cutting-edge research and clinical applications in psychiatric genetics, including the genetics of neurodevelopmental disorders, brain development, copy number variation, and genetic counseling for psychiatric disorders.

This symposium will bring together leading experts from ASHG and ISPG for brief talks and a panel discussion. The intent is to increase interactions between these two related communities and thereby increase the prospects for productive collaborations.

You must register for either the ASHG 2017 or the World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics to attend this symposium. A separate fee applies. Please check the appropriate box during the registration process.

The 67th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) will be held at the Orange County Convention Center South Building in Orlando, Florida, from Tuesday, October 17 through Saturday, October 21, 2017 (immediately after the WCPG meeting). The ASHG Annual Meeting is the largest human genetics meeting and exposition in the world. This year’s meeting is expected to attract over 6,500 scientific attendees, plus over 200 exhibiting companies. The meeting provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge science in all areas of human genetics. You can visit the meeting website at www.ashg.org/2017meeting for further details.
